Why we ask for a patch test before lash and brow tints

Written by India Hudson, founder & therapist

If you've booked a lash tint, brow tint or lash lift with us for the first time, you'll have noticed we ask you to pop in for a quick patch test first. We know it's an extra step – so here's why it matters.

What is a patch test?

A tiny amount of the tint or lash lift solution is dabbed onto a small patch of skin – usually behind your ear or on your inner elbow – and left to see how your skin reacts. It takes just a few minutes in the salon.

02

Why do we need one?

Tints and lash lift solutions are used very close to your eyes. Although they're professional, safe products, anyone can develop a sensitivity to an ingredient – even if they've had tints before elsewhere, or used hair dye with no problem. A patch test is the simplest way to check your skin is happy before we go near your eyes. It's also what the manufacturers require, and it's part of keeping you – and our insurance – safe.

03

When should I come in?

At least 48 hours before your treatment, so any reaction has time to show. Just call us on 0114 266 4237 to arrange it – it fits easily around other appointments.

04

What should I look out for?

After your test, keep an eye on the area. If you notice redness, itching, swelling or burning, wash it off with cool water and let us know – we won't go ahead with the treatment, and we'll suggest an alternative such as an eyebrow shape.

05

Do I need one every time?

Not usually – once you've had a successful patch test and treatment with us, we'll keep a note. We may ask for another if it's been a long time since your last tint, or if you've started new medication or had a reaction to anything else.
