How Hopi ear candling in Sheffield works

Ear candling (sometimes called ear coning) uses long, hollow candles made from cotton and beeswax with natural herbs and essential oils. One end is placed gently at the entrance of your ear while you lie on your side, and the other is lit. The candle acts like a chimney, creating a gentle, warming air flow and a soft crackling sound that most people find incredibly soothing.

Many clients book it when they're feeling stressed, stuffy or simply in need of some quiet. It's often finished with a gentle face and scalp massage, which makes it all the more relaxing.

What happens during your treatment

  1. Consultation. A short chat to check the treatment is right for you.
  2. Get comfy. You lie on your side on a warm couch, fully clothed, with a pillow under your head.
  3. First ear. The candle is placed gently at the ear and lit. You'll hear a soft crackle and feel a gentle warmth – your therapist stays with you throughout.
  4. Second ear. You turn over and the process is repeated.
  5. Massage and rest. A gentle face and scalp massage to finish, then time to come round slowly.

Is it right for you?

Ear candling is a relaxing complementary treatment, not a medical one. It isn't suitable if you have grommets, a perforated eardrum, an ear infection, or have recently had ear surgery. If you have ear pain, hearing problems or a build-up of ear wax, please see your GP or a pharmacist first. Looking for something calming without the candles? Try Indian head massage or reflexology.

Before and after your visit

Please remove earrings and avoid putting anything in your ears on the day. Afterwards, keep your ears warm and dry for the rest of the day, and avoid swimming.
