Essential oils and your aromatherapy massage in Sheffield

Aromatherapy uses the natural scents of plant essential oils to help you relax and feel more balanced. Before your massage, your therapist will chat with you about how you're feeling and what you'd like from the treatment, then blend a few essential oils into a nourishing carrier oil just for you.

Feeling frazzled? Something soft and calming, like lavender or chamomile. Low on energy? Perhaps fresh citrus or rosemary. The massage itself uses long, flowing strokes, so you can breathe in the scent, let your muscles soften and simply let go. Many people find the scent stays with them – and the calm does too.

What happens during your aromatherapy massage

  1. Consultation. How you're feeling, any health conditions, allergies or sensitivities, and the areas you'd like us to focus on.
  2. Your blend. Your therapist suggests a few oils to smell, and you choose the ones you love.
  3. Settle in. You'll undress to your underwear and lie on a warm couch under soft towels.
  4. Your massage. Gentle, flowing strokes with your personal blend – full body or the areas you've chosen.
  5. Come round. Take your time, sit up slowly and enjoy a glass of water.

Is it right for you?

Aromatherapy massage is lovely if you're stressed, tired, struggling to switch off or simply want a very relaxing treat. Some essential oils aren't suitable during pregnancy, with epilepsy, high blood pressure or certain medications, so please tell us about your health when you book. If you're pregnant, our maternity massage is designed for you. For firmer work on knots, choose deep tissue massage.

Before and after your visit

Avoid a heavy meal just before. Afterwards, try to leave the oils on your skin for a few hours (or overnight) before showering, drink plenty of water and keep the rest of your day gentle. Please let us know straight away if you notice any skin irritation.

Good to know

Your questions, answered

What's the difference between aromatherapy and Swedish massage?

+

Aromatherapy massage uses a personal blend of essential oils chosen for how you'd like to feel. Swedish massage focuses on the massage technique itself, with a plain massage oil.

Can I choose my oils?

+

Yes – your therapist will suggest a few that suit how you're feeling, and you pick the ones you love.

What if I have allergies or sensitive skin?

+

Please tell us when you book. We'll avoid any oils that may not suit you and keep the blend gentle.

Can I have aromatherapy massage when I'm pregnant?

+

Some essential oils aren't recommended in pregnancy, so we'd suggest our maternity massage instead.

Should I shower straight afterwards?

+

If you can, leave the oils on for a few hours so your skin can enjoy them.
