What to expect from a Himalayan salt stone massage in Sheffield

Himalayan salt stones are smooth, polished blocks carved from natural pink rock salt. They're gently warmed, then your therapist uses them as an extension of their hands – gliding them over your muscles in long, flowing strokes with a nourishing massage oil. The salt holds its warmth well and spreads it evenly, so tight muscles soften and you can relax without the need for heavy pressure.

The stones feel wonderfully smooth on the skin, and their warmth is gentle and comforting rather than hot. Many clients describe it as one of the most calming massages they've had – the perfect way to switch off on a grey Sheffield afternoon.

What happens during your salt stone massage

  1. Welcome and a chat. We'll ask where you're holding tension, how firm you like the pressure and about any health conditions.
  2. Warming the stones. While the salt stones warm up, you'll undress to your underwear and settle onto a warm couch under soft towels.
  3. Your massage. Your therapist applies a light massage oil, then glides the warm salt stones over your back, shoulders, arms and legs, depending on the option you've chosen. We'll check the temperature with you throughout.
  4. Time to come round. No rush – sit up slowly and enjoy a glass of water.
  5. Aftercare. A few simple tips to keep that warm, relaxed feeling going.

Is it right for you?

A Himalayan salt stone massage is lovely if you feel the cold, carry stress and tension, or simply want a soothing, indulgent treat. It isn't suitable during pregnancy (please choose one of our maternity massage treatments), on broken, sunburnt or irritated skin, or straight after waxing or shaving, as salt can sting. Heat may not suit you if you have low or high blood pressure, diabetes, circulation problems or neuropathy, or take blood-thinning medication – please tell us about any health conditions when you book.

05

Before and after your visit

Avoid shaving or waxing the areas being massaged for 24 hours beforehand, and skip a heavy meal just before. Afterwards, drink plenty of water and keep the rest of your day gentle if you can – you may feel deliciously sleepy.

Good to know

Your questions, answered

What is a Himalayan salt stone massage?

+

It's a warm massage using smooth stones carved from pink Himalayan salt. The stones are gently heated and glided over your muscles to ease tension, a little like a hot stone massage.

How is it different from a hot stone massage?

+

Both use warmth to help muscles relax. Our hot stone massage uses smooth basalt stones; this treatment uses polished salt stones, which feel very smooth and give an even, gentle heat.

Will the salt sting my skin?

+

Not on healthy skin. Please avoid shaving or waxing the area for 24 hours beforehand, and tell us about any cuts, grazes or irritation.

How long does it take?

+

Choose from 25 minutes (back, neck & shoulders), 40 minutes (upper body), 55 minutes (full body) or 85 minutes (luxury).

Can I have it when I'm pregnant?

+

No – heat treatments aren't recommended during pregnancy. Our maternity massage is designed to keep you and your baby comfortable.

Can I buy a salt stone massage as a gift?

+

Yes – our eGift vouchers arrive by email in seconds.
