What to expect from a hot stone massage in Sheffield

Luxury (85 mins) – our longest massage, with time to work through every area properly and plenty of time to completely unwind. The perfect treat when an hour just isn't enough.

Hot stone massage brings together two lovely things: massage and warmth. Smooth, heated basalt stones are placed on key points of your body and used as an extension of your therapist's hands, gliding over the muscles with massage oil. The heat helps tight muscles soften, so your therapist can ease away tension without heavy pressure.

Clients describe it as like sinking into a warm bath – the kind of relaxation that stays with you for the rest of the day. If you feel the cold, carry stress in your shoulders or just want to be completely spoilt, this is the one.

What happens during your treatment

  1. Welcome and a chat. We'll ask about any areas of tension, how you like the pressure and anything we should know about your health.
  2. Warming the stones. While the stones heat to a soothing temperature, you'll settle onto a warm couch under soft towels.
  3. Your massage. Your therapist places warm stones along your back and in your hands, then uses more stones to massage you with long, flowing strokes. We always check the temperature is comfortable.
  4. Time to come round. Take a few quiet moments before sitting up slowly. We'll bring you a glass of water.
  5. Aftercare. A few easy tips to make the most of that lovely, loose feeling.

Full body, upper body or back?

Choose full body for the complete experience, upper body for your back, neck, shoulders and arms, or back for a shorter treat. If you'd like firmer work on knots, our deep tissue massage goes deeper. For pure relaxation without the stones, try our Swedish massage. Hot stone massage isn't suitable during pregnancy – our maternity massage is designed for that.

Before and after your visit

Please tell us about any skin sensitivity, circulation problems, diabetes or heart conditions, as heat may not suit everyone. Avoid a heavy meal or alcohol beforehand. Afterwards, sip plenty of water and give yourself a slow, gentle evening if you can – you'll feel deliciously sleepy.

Good to know

Your questions, answered

Are the stones very hot?

+

They're warm and soothing rather than hot. Your therapist tests every stone before it touches your skin and will adjust straight away if anything feels too warm.

Is hot stone massage good for tension?

+

Many clients find the warmth helps tight muscles relax more easily, so it's lovely for tension – without needing deep pressure.

Who shouldn't have a hot stone massage?

+

It isn't suitable during pregnancy, and heat may not suit people with some skin conditions, diabetes, heart or circulation problems. Please let us know when you book and we'll suggest an alternative if needed.

How often can I have one?

+

As often as you like! Many clients book one at the change of each season, or monthly through the colder months.

Can I give a hot stone massage as a gift?

+

Yes – our eGift vouchers arrive by email in seconds and can be used to book online.
