- Very light pressure

What to expect from lymphatic drainage massage in Sheffield
Lymphatic drainage massage is very different from a classic massage. Instead of kneading the muscles, your therapist uses slow, light, rhythmic pumping and sweeping movements across the skin, following the natural direction of your lymphatic system. The pressure is so gentle it can feel almost like a stroke – and that's exactly the point.
It's one of the most soothing treatments there is. Many people find it helps them feel less puffy and more refreshed, particularly after long flights, long days on their feet, or in warm weather when ankles and fingers can feel swollen. Most of all, it's a wonderfully calm hour.
What happens during your treatment
- Consultation. A few health questions first, as lymphatic drainage isn't suitable for everyone.
- Settle in. You'll undress to your underwear and lie on a warm couch under soft towels.
- Prepare. Gentle movements at the neck and collarbone to start.
- Massage. Light, rhythmic strokes across the body, or focused on the legs, always moving towards the lymph nodes.
- Rest and water. Take your time getting up, and drink a glass of water before you go.
Is it right for you?
Lymphatic drainage massage is a relaxing wellbeing treatment, not a medical one. It isn't suitable if you have an infection or fever, a blood clot or history of DVT, heart or kidney problems, or are having active cancer treatment – please speak to your GP first. If you've been diagnosed with lymphoedema, you'll need a specialist lymphoedema therapist. If you'd prefer a more traditional relaxing massage, try Swedish massage.
Before and after your visit
Wear something loose and comfortable, and avoid a heavy meal just before. Afterwards, drink plenty of water, keep moving gently and give yourself a calm evening. Many people find they need the loo more than usual afterwards – completely normal.
