Who our sports massage in Sheffield is for

Sports massage is a firm, focused massage that targets the muscles you use the most. Runners often need work on calves, hamstrings and hips; cyclists on quads, glutes and lower back; climbers, lifters and swimmers on shoulders and upper back. Your therapist uses a mix of deep strokes, trigger-point work and stretching to ease tightness and help you feel loose and ready for your next session.

You don't need to be an athlete. Sports massage is for anyone active – weekend walkers, parkrunners, five-a-side players, people training for their first 10K – and for anyone whose muscles feel tight from a physical job.

What happens during your sports massage

  1. Consultation. We'll ask about your sport, your training, any events coming up and any niggles.
  2. Assessment. Your therapist checks where you're tight and how you're moving.
  3. Massage. Targeted, firm work on the areas that need it most, often combined with stretches.
  4. Aftercare. Simple stretches and recovery tips to take home.
  5. Plan. If you're training for an event, we can suggest when to book your next session.
03

Back or full body?

Choose back, neck & shoulders (25 mins) for focused work on your upper body, or full body (55 mins) to include your legs, hips and glutes – usually the best choice for runners and cyclists. Prefer firm pressure without the stretching? Try our deep tissue massage. For assisted stretches with rhythmic pressure, our Thai massage is another great option.

04

Is it right for you?

Sports massage is great during regular training, in the run-up to and after events, and for general muscle tightness. If you have a new, painful or worsening injury, please see a physiotherapist or GP first – sports massage is for maintenance and recovery, not for diagnosing or treating injuries. It isn't suitable during pregnancy.

05

Before and after your visit

Wear or bring shorts. Avoid a big meal just before. Afterwards, drink plenty of water, keep moving gently and avoid hard training for the rest of the day. It's normal to feel a little tender for a day or two, much like after a good workout.
