How our bamboo massage in Sheffield works

Hot bamboo massage uses polished bamboo canes in different lengths and widths. The canes are gently warmed, then your therapist uses them as an extension of their hands – rolling them along your back, kneading across your shoulders and working smaller canes into the tight spots around your neck and shoulder blades.

The warmth helps your muscles soften, so your therapist can work more deeply without it ever feeling harsh. The rolling motion gives a lovely, even pressure that many people describe as like having knots 'ironed out'. It's firm, rhythmic and grounding – and the perfect length for a lunch break.

What happens during your bamboo massage

  1. Welcome and a chat. Tell us where you're tight, how firm you like the pressure and about any injuries or health conditions.
  2. Warming the bamboo. While the canes warm up, you'll undress to the waist and lie on a warm couch under soft towels.
  3. Warming up. Your therapist starts with gentle hands-on strokes and a nourishing oil.
  4. Bamboo massage. The warm canes are rolled, glided and pressed across your back, neck and shoulders, with the pressure adjusted to suit you.
  5. Come round and aftercare. A glass of water and a couple of easy desk stretches to help it last.

Is it right for you?

Bamboo massage is ideal if you carry tension in your back, neck and shoulders, sit at a desk all day, or enjoy a firmer massage. Want longer? Our lava shell massage, hot stone massage and Himalayan salt stone massage all come as full body treatments, and our deep tissue massage offers firm pressure from head to toe. It isn't suitable during pregnancy (please choose a maternity massage), over recent injuries, sunburn or broken skin, or if you bruise easily or take blood-thinning medication.

Before and after your visit

Let us know about any injuries or sore spots so we can work around them. Afterwards, drink plenty of water, roll your shoulders now and then, and try to take regular screen breaks. It's normal to feel a little tender in tight areas for a day or so.

Good to know

Your questions, answered

What is a bamboo massage?

+

A massage using warm, polished bamboo canes of different sizes, which your therapist rolls, kneads and glides over your muscles to ease tension.

Does bamboo massage hurt?

+

It's firmer than a relaxing massage, but it shouldn't hurt. The warmth helps your muscles relax, and your therapist will adjust the pressure as you go.

How long does it take?

+

25 minutes, focused on your back, neck and shoulders.

Can I have a full body bamboo massage?

+

Our bamboo massage is a back, neck and shoulder treatment. For a full body heated massage, try our lava shell, hot stone or Himalayan salt stone massage.

How often should I book?

+

If you're working through stubborn tension, a few sessions a couple of weeks apart works well, then once a month to keep on top of it.
